How it all started...
In 1999, several Christian families began praying about the possibility of planting a new congregation in eastern Parker County. For several months, we met in homes on Wednesday evenings for Bible study and prayer while continuing to worship with various local congregations on Sundays.
During that time, we sought God's direction, asking whether this desire came simply from wanting to remain together as a church family or whether He was calling us to begin a new work in our community. Over the next six months, the Lord answered those prayers by opening doors and providing opportunities. As His leading became clear, we committed ourselves to following where He led.
On Sunday, October 3, 1999, the Oak Ridge Church held its first worship service at Mary Martin Elementary School in Hudson Oaks. What began as a small group of believers stepping out in faith has, by God's grace, grown into a church family that has sought to love God, serve others, and share the hope of Christ.
If you've ever wondered how we got our name, the answer is simple. The school where we first met was located on Oak Ridge Road, and—in good Church of Christ tradition—we took our name from the road where our journey began.
As we celebrate over twenty-five years together, we are grateful for God's faithfulness, for those who answered His call to help establish this congregation, and for the many people who have been part of our story since that first Sunday. We look forward with the same prayer that guided us in the beginning: that God will continue to lead us as we seek to honor Him and serve our community.
